Small Kitchens: 7 Tips to Make Yours Look Bigger
You have a small kitchen and unfortunately, tearing down all the walls isn’t an option. You are running out of space and would like to make it more functional. You can make the space look bigger, which in turn makes it more comfortable to work in. Since we can’t change the size of the room, we have to find other ways to get around the technical difficulties.
Create perspective
If you want to visually enlarge your kitchen, there's nothing like playing with the perspectives and depth of the room. Draw the eye to very distant points. To do this, guide the eye with linear games. For example, LED strips can be used to highlight kitchen elements such as an island or ceiling to create an effect of length. Everything should be done to attract the eye as far as possible and give the impression of space.
Embrace white everything: As you probably know, white has the power to visually expand space. Use as much as you want if you feel overwhelmed in your kitchen.
Use light tones: If you are more of the opinion that white translates to an overly-sanitized look, you can vary the light shades. Blonde wood, white melamine and a touch of pastel color can look very nice.
Consider reflective materials
Transparency and reflection add light and depth to a room. It is not easy to install mirrors or windows in the kitchen, so play with the materials. Lacquered products are highly reflective, and glass can create reflections and allow natural light to circulate depending on the time of day. Some enamel mosaics are very shimmery, and copper and aluminum can also reflect light.
Try an open concept
You may not be able to push all the walls, but maybe can you knock down one. Open the kitchen to the living room to free up space.
Add full height cabinets
The goal is to visually enlarge the space. To do this, we must avoid all the obstacles that the eye encounters. Full height storage is a very good solution for this. They add to the space discreetly and make the surface areas smoother. In addition, kitchen manufacturers now offer increasingly practical storage.
Keep openings open
If you have an opening, like a pass-through to the dining room, a breakfast bar or a peninsula, make the most of it and do not block it. The opening creates depth, so remove anything impeding the space.
